This research examines the theology of the cross in the context of the suffering of today's people with a focus on the aspects of God's justice and mercy. In the face of various forms of modern suffering such as pandemics, economic crises, natural disasters, and social conflicts, believers often question the presence and role of God. Through a qualitative approach with the literature study method, this study explores how the theology of the cross offers a profound perspective on God's solidarity with human suffering. The results of the study show that the theology of the cross, especially through Jürgen Moltmann's thought of a "God who suffers," provides a theological framework for understanding suffering as a space of encounter with a just and merciful God. Christ's suffering on the cross is the highest manifestation of God's solidarity with suffering man, and it is also the basis of eschatological hope for the transformation of suffering. This study concludes that contextual theology of the cross allows people to find meaning in suffering, experience God's presence in solidarity, and participate in God's work of salvation in the midst of the reality of today's suffering. This finding provides an important theological foundation for the development of Christian Religious Education based on the theology of the cross as a formative strategy in shaping Christian people who not only have a deep understanding of the faith, but are also committed to justice and compassion in social life. Through the integration of the values of the cross in PAK's curriculum and pedagogical practices, students are invited to emulate Christ's solidarity with the suffering, and to be formed into transformation agents who are able to respond to suffering with empathy, moral courage, and concrete actions that build a more just and humane shared life.
