Abstract

Abstract

Preaching is the primary means of conveying a spiritual message to the congregation, but its success is largely determined by how clearly articulated the preacher is and the relevance of the language used. This study examines the extent to which these two elements affect the way the congregation receives and responds to the message of the sermon. Through a qualitative approach that includes in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation analysis at HKBP Parparean Resort Ebenezer Parparean, these dynamics are analyzed in depth. The findings indicate that good articulation—proper pronunciation, stable intonation, and appropriate speech rhythm—makes it easier for the congregation to understand the message being conveyed. Meanwhile, the relevance of language, through local idioms, familiar illustrations, and analogies that fit the daily life of the congregation, strengthens emotional and intellectual engagement. The synergy between effective articulation and contextual use of language has a significant impact on religious communication. In the context of Christian Religious Education, especially in the HKBP Sidorame Sunday School, teachers' communication styles that reflect the principles of classical rhetoric—ethos, pathos, and logos—are crucial. Speaking ethics, spiritual credibility, and the ability to build persuasive and empathetic communication have been shown to encourage children's understanding of the values of faith. This research also proposes a number of recommendations, including articulation and ethical communication training for Sunday School preachers and teachers, language adjustment based on students' backgrounds, the use of digital media, and the preparation of materials systematically and contextually. By combining clarity of articulation, language relevance, and communication ethics in a rhetorical perspective, the ministry of the word in the church and the education of children's faith can be significantly improved. This not only strengthens the spiritual relationship between communicators and audiences, but also answers the challenges of religious communication in today's digital and multicultural era.

ABSTRAK

Khotbah merupakan sarana utama dalam menyampaikan pesan spiritual kepada jemaat, namun keberhasilannya sangat ditentukan oleh seberapa jelas artikulasi pengkhotbah serta relevansi bahasa yang digunakan. Penelitian ini mengkaji sejauh mana kedua elemen tersebut berpengaruh terhadap cara jemaat menerima dan merespons pesan khotbah. Melalui pendekatan kualitatif yang mencakup wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipatif, dan analisis dokumentasi di HKBP Parparean Resort Ebenezer Parparean, dinamika tersebut dianalisis secara mendalam.Temuan mengindikasikan bahwa artikulasi yang baik—yakni pelafalan yang tepat, intonasi stabil, dan ritme bicara yang sesuai—mempermudah jemaat dalam memahami pesan yang disampaikan. Sementara itu, relevansi bahasa, melalui idiom lokal, ilustrasi yang familiar, serta analogi yang sesuai dengan keseharian jemaat, memperkuat keterlibatan secara emosional dan intelektual. Sinergi antara artikulasi yang efektif dan penggunaan bahasa yang kontekstual memberikan dampak yang signifikan dalam komunikasi keagamaan. Dalam konteks Pendidikan Agama Kristen, khususnya di Sekolah Minggu HKBP Sidorame, gaya komunikasi guru yang mencerminkan prinsip retorika klasik—ethos, pathos, dan logos—menjadi sangat krusial. Etika berbicara, kredibilitas spiritual, dan kemampuan membangun komunikasi yang persuasif dan penuh empati terbukti mendorong pemahaman anak terhadap nilai-nilai iman. Penelitian ini juga mengajukan sejumlah rekomendasi, antara lain pelatihan artikulasi dan komunikasi etis bagi pengkhotbah dan guru Sekolah Minggu, penyesuaian bahasa berdasarkan latar belakang peserta didik, pemanfaatan media digital, serta penyusunan materi secara sistematis dan kontekstual. Dengan memadukan kejelasan artikulasi, relevansi bahasa, dan etika komunikasi dalam perspektif retorika, pelayanan firman di gereja dan pendidikan iman anak dapat ditingkatkan secara signifikan. Hal ini tidak hanya memperkuat relasi spiritual antara komunikator dan audiens, tetapi juga menjawab tantangan komunikasi religius di era digital dan multikultural masa kini.
