Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model on Student Activity and Learning Outcomes on Excretory System Material in Class XI MAN 1 Medan Learning Year 2024/2025. This study used the Quasi Experimental Design method with the Pretest-Posttest group design. The sampling technique used Purposive Sampling. The research sample consisted of two classes, namely class XI-6 which used the PBL model and class XI-7 which used the discovery learning model, each class consisting of 32 students. The instruments in this study were observation sheets and multiple-choice tests of student learning outcomes consisting of 20 questions. The results showed that the learning activities of experimental class students increased from the first to the third meeting, especially in the indicator of discussing or working together in groups. The activity of discussion skills, especially the ability to argue and listen, is the aspect that most influences the increase in student learning activities. In addition, the learning outcomes of experimental class students also showed a more significant increase compared to the control class. These findings indicate that the application of PBL syntax, especially in the investigation and group discussion stages, can effectively increase students' active involvement and concept understanding.
