Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited research on the integration of Augmented Reality (AR) Smart Card and audio in science education, despite its significant impact on enhancing students’ engagement and understanding in biology learning contexts. The study aims to develop and evaluate an interactive instructional media based on AR Smart Card and audio to facilitate the learning of biological classification among Grade VII students in SMP/MTs. The research adopts a research and development (R&D) design, employing the ADDIE model, with a sample of 30 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires, observation sheets, expert validation forms, and learning outcome tests, and analyzed through descriptive statistics and paired sample t-tests. The findings reveal that the AR Smart Card-based media significantly improved students' understanding and motivation in learning classification of living things, aligning with the research objectives and supporting constructivist learning theory. The study concludes that AR Smart Card and audio-based media play a critical role in making abstract biological concepts more concrete and engaging. The implications encompass theoretical contributions by advancing the literature on AR-based learning tools, and practical recommendations for educators and curriculum developers to adopt immersive technologies that support student-centered learning. Additionally, this study identifies future research opportunities on longitudinal effects of AR media use and its scalability across different science topics.
