Peran Media Sosial dalam Pembentukan Religiusitas Remaja Muslim di Era Post-Truth

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited research on how digital platforms influence the religious consciousness of Muslim youth, despite the significant impact of social media in shaping identity and beliefs in the post-truth era. The study aims to explore how social media contributes to the formation, expression, and negotiation of religiosity among Muslim adolescents. Adopting a qualitative descriptive design, the research involved in-depth interviews with 15 Muslim teenagers active on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, along with digital content analysis of Islamic influencers. The findings indicate that social media serves as both a source of religious knowledge and a space for performative piety, where religious identity is publicly curated and sometimes influenced by algorithmic trends rather than deep understanding. The study reveals that while digital spirituality enables greater access to Islamic teachings, it also risks superficial religiosity due to selective exposure and echo chambers. This research contributes to Islamic education by highlighting the need for digital literacy and critical religious thinking in online contexts. The implications include the importance of integrating digital ethics and media awareness into the curriculum to guide youth in navigating faith formation in the digital age. Future research should investigate long-term effects of algorithmic religiosity on spiritual development and communal religious authority.
